Cognitive Dissonance: A Psychological Unrest | Current Journal of Applied Science and Technology

Cognitive dissonance is a condition that is produced when two cognitions are mismatched with each other, based on the experience of discomfort. Some literature (nearly twenty-five (25) papers focused on cognitive dissonance in the past are analysed in this research to provide a better image of cognitive dissonance in order to keep humans away from stress and negative feelings. A cognition is a piece of understanding that can be, feeling, actions, personal value and behaviour. Both human beings tend to equate their environment with their cognition. So under stressful circumstances, cognitive dissonance may produce a human being. In their attitudes and perceptions, people prefer to seek uniformity, so this war causes feelings of unease or discomfort. This disparity between what individuals think and how they behave allows individuals to participate in behaviours that will help reduce their feelings of discomfort. In order to deal with stress, a variety of techniques are adopted by humans, such as refusing new information, describing new information or preventing it. There is not inherently a negative thing about cognitive dissonance. When we understand that our values and behaviours are strange, it can be positive if we make positive improvements to our beliefs. To the same degree, not everyone experiences cognitive dissonance. Some individuals have a higher tolerance for misunderstanding and inconsistency. Also, it can also determine how to tolerate dissonance in an efficient way to maintain a balanced life depending on the personality of a human being.
