Synthesis, Characterisation and Antimicrobial Studies of Schiff Base and Its Metal Complexes | Inter

Four metal complexes of Schiff-based (3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-benzaldehyde with leucine) Co(II), Pb(II), Ni(II) and Fe(II) ions were synthesised and characterised using several physical techniques, including measurements of molar conductance, colour, melting point, infrared and electronic spectra. A non-electrolytic essence is revealed by the molar conductance values. The Schiff base's coordination behaviour towards Co(ll), pb(ll), Ni(ll) and Fe(ll) ions is seen in infrared spectral data. The Schiff base and its complexes' electronic absorption spectra show π→π* (phenyl ring) and n→π* (HC=N) and the predicted geometrical structure for the prepared complexes. The Schiff base and its complexes were tested against gram-positive bacteria for antimicrobial activity; Staphylococcus aurous; E. Coli and Klebsiella, in addition to the fungal Rizopus. It was only against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli that the effect of the Schiff base leucine complex on bacteria was recorded.
