Awareness and Knowledge of Breast Cancer Screening Methods among Women in Al-Qunfudah, Saudi Arabia
Objectives: The most common malignancy affecting women in Saudi Arabia is breast cancer. Screening helps to diagnose breast cancer early and to promptly treat it, leading to a better prognosis. Lack of expertise and understanding of their methods of screening can lead to bad results. Nothing is understood so far about women's awareness of screening for breast cancer. This study was conducted in Al-Qunfudah to evaluate the awareness, attitudes and practise of breast cancer screening among Saudi women. Methods: This is a cross-sectional analysis in which 203 adult Saudi women aged 18 and over are included. In 2019, data was collected from Saudi women in Al-Qunfudah, Saudi Arabia, through a self-administered questionnaire. Using SPSS programme, the data was entered and statistically analysed. Performance: Results showed that all participants in this study had learned of breast cancer and were highly conscious of breast self-examination (93.6 percent ). Concerning clinical breast examination (63.1 percent) and mammography, comprehension levels were lower (65.5 percent ). Just 43.3 percent practised breast self-examination properly, however and 5.9 percent had ever learned of a mammogram. Mammography screening experience of breast cancer screening was significantly linked to participant age (P=0.04), marital status (P=0.008), and occupation (P=0.04). In addition, there was an important association between participants undergoing mammography and age (P=0.001). Conclusion: Our data suggest that information, understanding, and practises were inadequate, and that in Al-Qunfudah, educational initiatives are needed to encourage young women to practise early detection screening.
