Improvement of the Growth Performance, Innate Immunity and Disease Resistance of Nile Tilapia (Oreoc

The impact of Lactobacillus plantarum 1KMT with pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus 1T1 on the survival rate, growth efficiency, innate immunity and disease resistance of Oreochromis niloticus has been investigated. This study was carried out between August 2018 and August 2019 in the Department of Fisheries of the National Agriculture Research Centre (NARC) and the Department of Biosciences of Comsats University Islamabad, Pakistan. Sixty stable fish (10,99 ± 1,1 g body weight) were acclimatised for 14 days in 1000 L tanks under laboratory conditions. They were then randomly divided evenly into two classes of G1 and G2 with one replication: G1 fed without probiotic (control) with the basal diet (BD) and G2 fed with 1x108 CFU.g-1 diet supplemented with Lactobacillus plantarum with 1KMT. For a period of 60 days, the trial was carried out. It was tested every 10 days for intestinal microflora, survival rate (SR), weight gain (WG), basic growth rate (SGR) and food conversion ratio (FCR). The levels of the innate immune parameters were evaluated after 60 days. Eighteen fish from G2 were randomly selected and divided into two subgroups for the Vibrio parahaemolyticus 1T1 challenge study: G2A, with 1KMT continuous treatment, and G2B, in which treatment was discontinued. Fatalities were reported after 21 days. The findings showed that there was a substantial increase in intestinal microflora in G2 relative to G1. In G2 and G1, respectively, the survival rate was 96.5 and 86.0 percent. The WG was not significantly affected, while G2 had significantly improved the SGR and innate immunity parameters (p < 0.05) compared to G1. In G1 and subgroup G2B, respectively, the mortality rate was 77.7 percent and 66.6 percent, while no mortality was observed in G2A after the challenge test. The 1KMT Lactobacillus plantarum improves Nile tilapia's growth efficiency, survival rate, innate immunity and disease resistance.
