A New Flame AAS Application for Magnesium Determination in Solid Pharmaceutical Preparations as an..
Objective: A new application of Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) was used to evaluate magnesium as an active ingredient and/or excipient in its solid preparations (effervescent and uncoated compressed tablets). The linear spectrum of magnesium was measured using the following methodology. The researchers looked at a sample of magnesium effervescent tablets. Using two digestion methods, the concentration of magnesium stearate in commercial paracetamol tablets was also calculated indirectly. Finally, the influence of talc on the overall magnesium content of a sample of drugfree tablets (only containing excipients) was investigated.Linear range was found in magnesium concentrations ranging from 0.08 to 0.40 ug/mL. The percentage of effervescent tablet samples recovered ranged from 98.66 to 103.00 percent, indicating that the product meets requirements. The average content of magnesium stearate in paracetamol tablets was 0.2 percent, and there were no discrepancies between the two digestion methods (t=0.454). In the presence of talc, we found a substantial increase in magnesium concentrations in the drug-free study. Conclusion: The AAS method is an easy and fast technique that can be used to estimate magnesium in both in-process and final product analyses.
