Amoebic Colitis Presenting as Subacute Intestinal Obstruction with Perforation | International .....
Entamoeba histolytica is found all over the world, particularly in developing countries. Amoebic colitis was diagnosed in a 45-year-old man who had abdominal distension and had been unable to pass stools for three days. In the right iliac fossa, the abdominal area was diffusely distended and tender. Gut loops were evident on simple abdominal radiography, and there was no intergut free fluid. Malrotation of the gut was discovered during laparotomy. Following surgery, histopathological analysis of intestinal samples confirmed the final diagnosis of amoebic colitis.
