An Assessment of Azithromycin Prescribed Interactions’ at the Outpatient Setting

Objectives: The present research was performed in an outpatient setting in Alkharj to classify and determine the magnitude of azithromycin interactions with other medications.

Methodology: In an outpatient environment in a public hospital in Alkharj, a retrospective study of azithromycin prescriptions was carried out to assess the frequency of interactions between azithromycin and other medicines.

Results: In the report, 182 prescriptions were included. In just 1 prescription (0.55 percent) and mild interactions in 15.30 percent of the prescriptions, there was a significant interaction. So the proportion of total interactions was around 20.88%. In the present analysis, the most common drug interactions were between azithromycin and salbutamol.

Conclusion: It can be inferred that there were common interactions between azithromycin and other drugs, but these interactions may lead to irregular heart rhythm and muscle pain and weakness. The implementation of international standards and locally compatible antibiotic usage recommendations will help to prevent such problems.
