Aim: The objective of this study was to examine the prescribing patterns of acyclovir in a public hospital in AlKharj. Methodology: Cross-sectional research, via hospital pharmacy facilities, including the collection of data on the use of acyclovir from de-identified pharmacy records in Alkharj maternity and children's hospital from 1 January 2018 to 31 Aug 2020. Results: Between 1 Jan 2018 and 31 Aug 2020, a total of 1059 prescriptions containing acyclovir were dispensed. Acyclovir was administered predominantly as an intravenous (45.89 percent) or oral (34.09 percent) therapy in the present study. It is primarily administered as a vial (45.89%), followed by suspension (31.63 percent ). 52.60 percent of medications were prescribed by the Inpatient Ward and 25.87 percent of prescriptions were prescribed by the emergency department. Conclusion: It can be inferred that acyclovir was frequently administered in the hospital and that it should be regulated to ensure that it is correctly prescribed and dispensed.
