Antiviral Treatment for COVID-19: A Systematic Review | Journal of Pharmaceutical Research ....

Aim: In December 2019, reports surfaced of a new form of coronavirus that is wreaking havoc on the world's health systems. We conducted a systematic analysis of the antivirals that have been tested and may be useful in this public health crisis. Data Sources: MESH words were used in a PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus search strategy. RCTs from clinicaltrials.gov were also looked at. Between April and June 2020, the databases were scanned.Study Selection: From a study database of 280 papers, we selected all Randomized Controlled Trials investigating the effects of antivirals, and 5 studies were included. 43 papers were chosen for analysis after duplicates were removed. Finally, 5 articles were eligible for full-text review and included in the article. Results: In a recent randomised controlled study, patients who took antivirals compared to those who did not showed little clinical improvement in terms of mortality, oxygen support, or the need for intubation. There was no discernible clinical benefit. It was discovered that estimating clinical progress is difficult, and that this significant disparity makes comparing the studies that are qualified difficult. Conclusion: More research is required to verify the reliability of these predictors. More antiviral clinical trials are required to see if there is a connection between clinical progress and SARS-CoV-19 mortality.
