Assessment of Complete Blood Counts of Cannabis sativa Smokers in Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria | Archi

Smoking Cannabis sativa (Marijuana), a psychotropic chemical, can have negative effects on the body's live cells. The purpose of this study is to compare the total blood count of Cannabis sativa smokers in Ekpoma, Edo State, to that of non-smokers. For this study, a total of one hundred individuals were recruited, with fifty (50) cannabis sativa users and fifty (50) non-smokers serving as controls. The questionnaire was used to acquire a thorough record of each subject's medical and smoking history. The samples were taken to a facility where they were analysed with a Sysmex KX auto analyzer. When compared to the control, cannabis users had significantly lower levels of WBC, RBC, granulocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, haemoglobin, packed cell volume, and platelet levels (p0.05). Cannabis users' MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, PDW, and MPV values were substantially different (p0.05) from control participants. Finally, this study discovered that cannabis smokers' haematological parameters differed significantly from non-smokers.
