Association between Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Breast Cancer: A Review | Asian Research ..
The aim of this study is to learn more about polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common endocrine disorder that affects women of reproductive age. Some of the key risk factors for breast cancer are the hormonal profile and comorbidities seen in people with PCOS, such as obesity and diabetes. The aim of this review is to look into the possibility of a connection between PCOS and breast cancer. The epidemiological data, the correlation of PCOSrelated symptoms and PCOS drugs with the occurrence of breast cancer are the subject of this study. Methodology: A systematic literature search was conducted using Ovid MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and PubMed to identify epidemiologic studies that reported on the connection between PCOS and breast cancer published in the last ten years (from 2010 to June25, 2020). Polycystic ovary syndrome, breast cancer, and breast neoplasms were used as keywords. The majority of epidemiological research found no evidence of a connection between PCOS and breast cancer. Elevated androgen and oestrogen levels, on the other hand, have been linked to an increased risk of oestrogen receptor positive breast cancer. In addition, women with obesity, hyperinsulinemia, and a low level of sex hormon binding globulin had a higher risk of breast cancer, according to this study. Unlike metformin and clomiphene citrate, combined hormonal contraception is related to a higher risk of breast cancer when used as a first-line treatment for PCOS. Conclusion: Since the clinical results from this study are contradictory, a firm conclusion about the connection between PCOS and breast cancer cannot be drawn, stressing the need for more prospective research in the future.
