Awareness on Use of Steroid Drugs among Football Players | Journal of Pharmaceutical Research Intern
Steroids are compounds that are man-made that mimic hormones that are naturally formed in the human body. In sports, the key function of steroids is to increase efficiency and decrease inflammation. The objective of the present study is to assess the understanding among football players of the use of steroid drugs and the adverse effects of the intake of steroid drugs. A cross-sectional analysis was performed on 100 State Football Association registered football players and veterans. The survey instrument was a pre-tested standardized questionnaire measuring knowledge of steroid drug use. After receiving informed consent, both male and female football players and veterans within the age range of 18-50 years were chosen. A simple random sampling procedure was the sampling system used. The questionnaire consisted of 10 open-ended questions, which were handled through Google forms. 76 percent of the respondents reported using steroid drugs at least once and 24 percent reported never using steroid drugs. We assume, according to the above survey, that there is a high rate of use by football players of steroid drugs.
