Comparison of Two Irrigation Solutions in the Surgical Removal of the Mandibular Third Molars- A Ran
The goal of this study was to see how postoperative irrigation with chlorhexidine saline irrigation and metronidazole saline irrigation affected non-inflammatory complications after a lower third molar extraction under local anaesthesia. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 patients between the ages of 18 and 80 were included in this study, all of whom had an impacted tooth that needed surgical removal. To prevent sampling bias, the patients were divided into two groups using Block Randomization. Each of the two groups had 60 patients. During the surgical removal of their mandibular third molars, Group A patients were irrigated with 1% Chlorhexidine Saline and Group B patients were irrigated with 1% Metronidazole Saline. After 7 days of recovery, the patients were assessed for pain, swelling, and dry socket. Results: The patient's mean age was 28.08 + SEM years. Only alveolar osteitis showed a statistically significant difference between 1 percent Metronidazole and 1 percent Chlorhexidine with a p value of 0.041(>0.05) out of three parameters evaluated (pain, swelling, and dry socket). With p-values of 0.431 for trismus and 0.750 for pain, the two groups did not differ significantly (p>0.05). Conclusion: Metronidazole was more effective in treating alveolar osteitis, but there was no difference between the two therapies in terms of pain and mouth opening.
