COVID-19 Pandemic and the 2020 Elections in Ghana | Journal of Scientific Research and Reports

The paper investigates the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on Ghana's 2020 election, which will take place on December 7th. Despite the fact that the pandemic has had a negative impact on the 2020 election process, the paper argues that it still provides political parties and the Electoral Commission with an opportunity to be creative in their operations. The thesis takes a content analysis approach and is primarily based on a desk examination of relevant literature on the subject at hand. According to the report, the virus may have the following negative effects on the 2020 elections:Low voter turnout due to fearof catching the virus by human interaction at polling stations, as well as a postponementof the 2020 elections if the virus spreads too far.The postponement of voter registration from April to June 2020, as well as a ban on political activities such as mass campaigns, are already having an effect.Another positive effect of the virus is that it has forced political parties to be more creative in their voter mobilisation efforts by using different social media channels. Campaigns and other political events are now conducted entirely online. With such creativity, the paper suggests that the E.C. regard online voting, postal voting, and early voting in the 2020 election as a wayto minimise human behaviour and overcrowding on election day, thus limiting COVID-19 spread.
