Determinants of Adoption of Improved Cassava Technologies among Farmers in Benue State, Nigeria ...

The study's aim was to find out what factors influence farmers in Benue, Nigeria, to implement improved cassava technologies. The research was carried out using a survey design. The study took place between February 2019 and November 2020 in Benue State. The study's methodology included all Benue State farm families. The study's 336 respondents were chosen using a combination of cluster and basic random sampling techniques. The findings revealed that the majority of the respondents were in their active and productive age groups, that both male and female farmers were involved in the production of cassava, with male farmers marginally outnumbering female farmers, and that 90% of the farmers had some sort of formal education, with an average farming experience of 14 years and minimal access to extension services. Farmers in Benue state have a high level of knowledge of improved cassava technologies, but just a moderate to low level of adoption. Characteristics of an area's adoption level were among the major factors that dictated the level of adoption in the area. 100 percent availability of inputs, 100 percent affordability, 80.3 percent storability, 81 percent consistency of finished goods, and 95 percent acceptability of products are all examples of creativity (349). Other factors include farming experience (98%) and sufficient knowledge of the technology (83%) (303), extension touch (86%), age (86%), income (85%), marital status (76%), and gender (81%).

The characteristics of an invention, such as availability of inputs, affordability, quality of processed goods, and acceptability of the products, were the major factors that determined the acceptance level in the region. Other factors include farming experience, sufficient technological skills, and extension touch. Extension agents should make sure that farmers have access to advanced cassava technologies and that they have the information and skills to use them, according to the study.
