Economic Implication of Covid-19 on Antenatal Care in Niger State: A Regression Approach............
Antenatal treatment (ANC) is one of the most effective ways to reduce maternal mortality around the world. From March to July 2020, this study looked at the economic effect of COVID-19 on ANC in Niger State, Nigeria. The study's aim was to determine COVID-19's economic effect on ANC. For study, the researchers used secondary data from the National District Health Information System (DHIS) and values from ANOVA and regression mathematical estimations statistical Excel packages. The data was taken at random from 10 of the State's 25 local government areas (LGAs). COVID 19 cases were confirmed in these LGAs. Complete ANC participation, number of Sulfadoxine Pyrimethamine (SP or IPTp) tablets taken by pregnant women in the health facility, and confirmed malaria cases for pregnant women were the data elements (variables) from March to July 2020. COVID-19 had a major effect on ANC in the study, with a Pval of 0.00025. With a coefficient of 0.565912 and a Pval of 0.008793, ANC has a positive and important effect on IPTp uptake, implying that a 1% rise in ANC leads to a 56.5 percent increase in IPTp uptake. With a Pvalue of 0.418786, there was no substantial increase in reported malaria in Niger State during the study period. The findings had the following consequences: it decreased the revenue raised for the health facility's facilities, exposing pregnant women and their foetuses to malaria risks during pregnancy while straining the vulnerable primary health care system, and giving a chance to unhealthy pregnant women and children. It has the potential to increase malaria during pregnancy, reducing the productivity of women engaged in economic activities such as planting, buying and selling, which are prevalent in the region. As a result, there has been a decrease in productivity and an increase in poverty in that area. Furthermore, it could result in an increase in maternal-child mortality in the state, which has been a burden on the nation, as well as a reduction in the working population, which could have boosted productivity and raised living standards. Finally, the report highlights the influence of COVID-19 as well as possible causes that should be investigated further in order to mitigate its impacts.
