Effect of Teachers and Students Relationships on the Academic Engagement of Students: A Qualitative

The impact of teacher-student interactions on student academic engagement was investigated in this study. The qualitative study was conducted using the interpretative research paradigm, which falls under the case study design. The study included eight Adama Science and Technology University lecturers and four students. Purposive sampling was utilised in this investigation. Interview instructions, a focus group discussion guide, and observation were used to acquire qualitative data. The analysis and interpretation that resulted gave a description of significant themes that emerged about excellent teacher-student relationships, as well as particular components of interactions that were deemed necessary for the student's learning environment. Finding specific parameters linked to teacher-student interactions could be useful information for an educational learning community. The study's findings revealed that the work environment and students' disciplinary problems had an impact on teachers' motivational elements in student interactions. The findings revealed that while instructors are driven to teach, the resources, atmosphere, motivation theories, and goals specified have an impact on the quality of the teaching-learning process. These factors, according to the study, should be preserved. As a result, it is suggested that higher education improve the university's working environment and working circumstances.
