Effects of Women Participation in Self-Help Groups on Households’ Economic Status in Tinderet Sub-Co
Women's participation in Self Help Groups is justified because it benefits its members by providing savings, investment, capacity building, and lending services. However, women in Tinderet Sub-county continue to face barriers and limited options, particularly in terms of income-generating activities and social standing, which the government considers best practise in the pursuit of long-term rural development. The goal of the study was to see how women's engagement in self-help groups affected their economic situation in Tinderet Sub-County. Social network theory was used to guide the research. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design which was both quantitative and qualitative research approach. The target population comprised of all registered women self-help groups in Tinderet Sub-county, which was 122 with 1220 members. The study used interview schedule for members and direct observation to collect data. The data collected was qualitative data and quantitative data. Qualitative analysis entailed organizing qualitative data into themes and patterns relevant to the research objective. Quantitative data collected were summarized into frequencies and percentages by the help of statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 20. Women's income increased after joining SHGs, according to the findings. Members had more self-assurance and were better able to make judgments about the requirements of the household. Women should be steady and prompt in their monthly contributions, according to the survey. The findings of the study are likely to be used as a reference in developing legislation and improving women's self-help groups.
