Engagement in Craft and the Development of Creative Skills among 6 – 13 Years Old Children | Asian J

In the twenty-first century, creativity has proven to be a valuable and necessary component of progress. Children aged 6 to 13 are interested, active, and participate in play as well as other activities in which they demonstrate their talents, sense of industry, and creativity. During this time, the parents, caregivers, and educators who surround the child have the responsibility of identifying the child's talents, interests, and skills and directing them to appropriate learning and career opportunities. Unfortunately, most African and Cameroonian groups are unaware of this. In today's world, children are rarely given the opportunity or freedom to participate in crafts. Furthermore, there seems to be a lack of understanding and appreciation for the skills that children learn from participating in crafts. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to investigate aspects of creativity in the engagement in craft of 6-13 year-old rural and urban Meta children. Aside from that, it contrasts the creative dispositions displayed by Meta children engaged in craft in rural and urban settings. An observation check list and an interview guide were used to collect both qualitative and quantitative data from a sample of 40 6–13 year old Meta children purposively drawn from some Meta villages and neighbourhoods in an urban area using the sequential explanatory design. The data was analysed using thematic content analysis, as well as descriptive and inferential statistics. Meta children demonstrate creative abilities while participating in craft, according to the findings. Children in rural areas, on the other hand, showed more artistic abilities in craft than those in urban areas. As a result, children should be encouraged to participate in crafts because it helps them develop their creativity.
