Evaluation of Occupational Hazards among Workers in Selected Abattoirs in Port Harcourt

Aim: The study proposed at investigating the pertaining to work hazards among abattoir peasants in selected abattoirs in Port Harcourt.Study Design: A cross-localized survey was carried out in order to decide and evaluate the accepted occupational hazards that killing place workers were exposed to utilizing a well-structured inquiry. Three abattoirs were randomly selected for the study that involved killing place workers, carelessly picked from three different abattoirs in Port Harcourt. The study was transported using a well-organized questionnaire and 140 respondents played in the study.Methodology: Five categories of pertaining to work hazards namely material, biological, ergonomic, psychosocial and synthetic hazards were investigated. Z-test reasoning was carried out to determine if skilled existed some significant impact formal by these hazards and the results of the analysis showed that the hazards were meaningful among killing place workers. In addition, the data got was also resolved using the Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) so that rank the prevalence of these hazards posed to killing place workers.Results: Biological hazard was ordered as a Class 1 hazard with a 71.53% percentage incident. This was closely understood by ergonomic and material hazards ranked as Class 2 hazards with allotment occurrences of 64.29% and 54.28% individually. Psychosocial hazard was ranked as Class 3 hazards having a allotment occurrence of 60.95% while synthetic hazard was ranked as Class 4 hazards accompanying a percentage occurrence of 35.24%.Conclusion: This study accordingly confirmed the vicinity of the aforementioned hazards as critical in doing abattoir traders. It was therefore urged that abattoir workers acquire information to increase their level of awareness and information of these occupational hazards in order to keep their health and security at work.
