Experimental Evaluation in Dry Machining of Inconel 718 Using Coated Carbides | Journal of .....

The use of ceramic tools has increased over the last two decades, especially in the milling and turning processes. As compared to carbide tools, these advanced ceramic tools have good characteristics that allow them to retain high hardness at high temperatures while also wearing much slower. There is a need for research on these advanced ceramic tools since there is insufficient data available on the tool itself. The primary goal of this study is to identify the cutting parameters that influence cutting temperature and power. Cutting speed, depth of cut, and feed rate are the cutting parameters. The tool is made of Silicon Nitride, and the work piece is made of AISI4140 steel. With three stages, three variables, and two responses, the Box-Behnken approach is used to perform the study. Cutting temperature and cutting force responses are described using a regression model. The effect of the cutting parameters and their contribution to the cutting temperature and cutting force response are determined using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The feed rate has the greatest effect on cutting temperature and force. The optimal cutting parameters that result in the lowest cutting temperature and force are also discovered.
