Exploring the Surgical Site Infection Rate after Caesarean Delivery in a Military Hospital in Alkhar

Introduction: When any complications occur during pregnancy or the delivery process, a cesarean section is a life-saving surgery. One major cause of extended hospitalization, higher mortality than before, increased morbidity, and increased hospital readmission is the emergence of post-caesarean delivery surgical site infections.

Aim: In the military hospital in Alkharj, this research aims to explore the incidence of caesarian section surgical site infection.

Methodology: This retrospective analysis involves the compilation of data from a military hospital in Alkharj in 2019 from the infection control unit.

Results: 756 surgeries is the highest number of Caesarian surgeries in 2019. In 2019, the percentage of surgical site infections was 1.19% . In some months, such as January, April, June, Sept, and December, the percentage of caesarian section surgical site infections was 0 percent. In May and July, the highest percentage was (2.5 percent ).

Conclusion: In the present study, the incidence of surgical site infections was low (about 1.2 percent), but since the percentage is generally underestimated and the rate of delivery by caesarean section is constantly increasing, it is important to track women for several weeks after caesarean surgery.
