Factors Contributing to Anaemia in Children under Five Years in the Ga East Municipality, Ghana | ..

Anaemia is a major public health problem that has serious health repercussions all over the world. More than two billion people have been contaminated around the world. This research used a cross-sectional study method. All mothers with children under the age of five who lived in the selected communities were included in the sample. A total of 282 mothers with children under the age of five were chosen for the study. The sample was chosen using a multistage sampling technique. The impact of demographic variables on awareness and prevalence of anaemia was studied using multiple logistic regression models. At a significance level of 0.05, all relevant associations and influences were calculated. The prevalence of anaemia in children was discovered to be 47.9%. (95 percent CI: 42 percent -54 percent ). In addition, 49.7% of the respondents had a family history of anaemia. Except for the mother's age (p=0.486), the number of children (p=0.60), and the delivery status (p=0.271), bivariate analysis revealed a substantial relationship between almost all variables and the anaemia condition in children. Mother's education, occupation, family type, and family income were all statistically significant factors (p0.001). Other variables with a p-value of 0.01, such as father's profession and religious affiliation, were also important. With a p-value of 0. 037, the child's birth weight was also important. It was pointed out that caregivers' understanding of childhood anaemia does not always imply a high degree of expertise. More than half of the participants had little knowledge of childhood anemia's signs and symptoms, complications, and treatment options.
