Farmers’ Problems Associated with Cultivation of Sunflower: A Case Study of Barguna District

Farmers benefit from sunflower production, but in the coastal region of Bangladesh, sunflower is a new crop for the Rabi season. The aim of this study was to determine the socio-economic characteristics of sunflower growers in Barguna and to identify the problems they face from production to marketing. The research was carried out in the coastal belt of the Barguna district, where 100 samples were collected at random. The research was carried out using a descriptive statistical approach. The findings showed that sunflower growers' biggest issues were crop, labour, irrigation, and sunflower oil marketing. High labour charge ranked first, salinity issue ranked second, stem rot ranked third, low market price less than production cost ranked fourth, training ranked fifth, and high seed price ranked sixth in the ranking of particular problems. To solve sunflower cultivation problems, irrigation machinery, proper marketing facilities, seed price reductions, adequate training programmes, and the establishment of an oil processing mill are all required solutions.
