Giant Intrapericardial Teratoma – Enough Space Left in the Neonatal Thorax? | Cardiology and .......

The best treatment for a foetal intrapericardial teratoma is debatable, particularly when it comes to foetal intervention. Given the disease's rarity, case reports may aid in decision-making.

Case Report: We present the case of a neonate who was born with a massive intrapericardial teratoma that nearly filled the entire thorax. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) was on standby in case of a caesarean section. Surprisingly, the child adopted easily and only required constant positive airway pressure (CPAP). The tumour was resected the next day without causing any damage to the heart. On the tenth day after surgery, the child was discharged.

Conclusion: If there is no foetal hydrops, our case supports the idea that even large tumours may have a benign postnatal path.
