Identification of Efficient Cropping Zone for Maize in Tamil Nadu | Current Journal of Applied Scien
The Department of Agronomy at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in Coimbatore conducted an empirical analysis. The study was carried out to identify potential maize districts in Tamil Nadu based on data collected from 1998-1999 to 2015-2016 on location, development, and productivity. The relative spread index (RSI) and relative yield index (RYI) were calculated using the data. The findings revealed that five districts in Tamil Nadu, including Ariyalur, Coimbatore, Erode, Theni, and Tiruppur, have high potential for maize cultivation. According to the study, parameters such as RYI and RSI are high, indicating potential districts, and some districts have a higher RSI but a lower RYI, indicating that the crop is unsuitable for that region.
