Impact Assessment on Knowledge of Weather Based Agro-advisory Services among Farmers in Tiruvallur..

Weather has an effect on crop production and productivity. Farmers who are aware of real-time weather variables such as temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and rainfall would be better able to avoid crop failure and produce higher yields with higher economic returns. Farmers can make better decisions with the right weather information at the right time. To prevent crop losses, schedule agricultural operations from crop selection to harvest. During 2019-2020, 382 AAS bulletins were prepared and distributed to farmers. A random sample survey of 60 farmers from villages in Tiruvallur and Tiruttani block of Tiruvallur district was conducted to investigate the impact of weather-based agro-advisory services. The findings revealed that focusing on illiterate farmers is much more relevant, and that distributing weather advisories in audio or visual format is preferable to getting them to adapt weather-based agricultural practises. According to the survey, 65% of farmers review the weather forecast before going on a spraying operation. Irrigation accounts for 73% of the budget, while animal husbandry accounts for 55%. According to our findings, farmers place a greater emphasis on spraying and irrigation operations based on weather forecasts. Furthermore, they must be made aware that, in order to achieve higher production and profits, they must obey weather forecasts from crop selection to harvest.
