Knowledge and Practice on Prevention of Domestic Accident among Mothers of under Five Children......
Introduction: A domestic accident is an accident that occurs in the house or its immediate surroundings and is a global public health issue. It is unavoidable owing to the curiosity, locomotor, and manipulative skills of children under the age of five, so moms must follow safe practises and preventative measures to safeguard and prevent domestic accidents. As a result, the study was undertaken with the goal of determining the degree of knowledge and practise on home accident prevention among mothers of children under the age of five who visited an OPD at a rural health centre.
Materials and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted using a convenience sampling technique to choose 60 samples that matched the inclusion criteria. Using a multiple choice questionnaire and an observational checklist, demographic information were gathered, followed by variables related to knowledge and practise in the avoidance of home accidents. To collect data on a one-to-one basis, the interview method was used. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to tabulate and evaluate the data.
The study found that 32 (53%) of the 60 participants had adequate knowledge and 29 (48.4%) had the best practise of domestic accident prevention, and that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between the level of knowledge and the level of practise on domestic accident prevention.
Conclusion: Because the findings are alarming, there is a need to establish rapid and active measures to prevent domestic accidents through various means of education programmes, such as mass media, which could make parents aware of environmental conditions, as well as the elimination of hazardous conditions from where their children live and play, which could help to prevent accidents.
