Perception Practice and Existing Knowledge Level of Farmers towards Agrochemical Use in Sitakunda...
Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine the farmers' level of knowledge and perceptions about the use and impact of agrochemicals, as well as the relationship between their level of knowledge and pesticide use and their age, education, farm size, and number of pesticides used. Between May and June 2018, the study was conducted in four separate unions of the Sitakunda Upazilla in Bangladesh's Chittagong District. Methodology: We conducted a multistage purposive random sampling of 142 farmer households from nine villages in three unions. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to interview them. Upazila agriculture officers and agrochemical retailers were interviewed as part of a primary informant survey. There was no evidence of excessive fertiliser or pesticide use. According to the findings, 66.2 percent of farmers had a medium level of knowledge, with 14.79 percent having a low level of knowledge and 19.01 percent having a high level of knowledge. It was discovered that outdated pesticides were being used. Farmers' experience is linked to their level of education and the amount of pesticides they use.Except for gypsum, there was a difference between the quantities of fertiliser applied and the recommended standard. The majority of them were unaware of the recommended fertiliser and pesticide application rates. Farmers' awareness should be strengthened, and they should be taught how to use agrochemicals responsibly through extension activities in order to get the best yield and be informed about safety precautions.
