Perceptions of the Impact of Biogas: A Case Study from Pakistan’s Southern District Muzaffargarh ...

Alternatives to fossil fuel energy are being marketed in an age where climate change is wreaking havoc on humanity's health, economy, infrastructure, and atmosphere. In comparison to fossil fuels, renewable energy resources are more sustainable and have the potential to replace traditional and pollution-inducing energy sources. In Pakistan, biogas has been introduced as an alternative green energy source that produces energy from organic matter. Biogas has been found to have a lot of promise, and several government and non-government organisations have started biogas initiatives. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of knowledge and preference for using biogas as an alternative energy source for daily household tasks. Primary data was collected from ten villages in Muzaffargarh district for the study. Purposive sampling was used to collect data from 70 livestock farming households in the study sites. The status, degree of consumption, and preference for biogas over other traditional sources were all depicted using descriptive analysis. The addition of biogas to the existing fuel sources was found to have separated the burden on solid biomass fuels. Since the use of renewable energies, empirical research has shown that people have seen a reduction in their costs and a lower number of illnesses. The study concluded that in order to produce significant income, biogas technology knowledge and information must be widely disseminated.
