Prevalence of Candidiasis Infection & Antifungal Susceptibility Pattern at Tertiary Care Hospital, J
Candida species are among the most common fungi that cause disease. They are ubiquitous yeasts that live on plants and make up the microbiota of mammals' gastrointestinal tracts and human mucocutaneous membranes.
Over the course of a year, 90 clinical samples were collected from Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Hospital in Jaipur. The direct smear examination with Gram's staining and KOH mount is used for primary identification, and the cells are then subcultured on SDA media.
The most common form of Candidiasis seen in 90 clinical specimens was Candiduria type, followed by blood cultures, swabs, Endotracheal tube, sputum, and Bronchialveolar lavage. The age group of 21-30 years had the highest number of patients, followed by 51-60 years. There were 48 (53.3 percent) males and 42 (46.6 percent) females among the 90 patients. Candida tropicalis was the most common species (44.4%), followed by Candida albicans and other Candida species. Candida albicans accounted for 32% of the 90 samples, while Candida species other than albicans accounted for 68%.
Conclusion: Micafungin and Caspofungin sensitivity was found to be 100 percent in C. tropicalis, according to the study. Flucytosine sensitivity was 100 percent in Candida albicans.
