Puzzle Out the Reason behind Habitual Miscarriage | Journal of Pharmaceutical Research International

Aims: Since no data on recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) in Pakistan is available, the current study's goal is to determine the relationship between multiple risk factors and RPL in Pakistan. The study was designed as a case-control study. From November 2018 to April 2019, the study was performed in the Benazir Bhutto Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi, and Polyclinic Hospital Islamabad. Methodology: An in-depth Performa was used to analyse the subjects. The statistical package for social sciences version-20 was used to analyse the results. Aside from that, height in centimetres, weight in kilogrammes, and blood pressure in millimetres of mercury were measured. SPSS 20 was used to perform all statistical measurements. For qualitative variables, Spearman bivariate correlation was determined, while numerical variables were analysed using ANOVA. The odd ratio and relative risk were estimated using a multinomial logistic regression model. Results: 91.34 percent of cases had a spontaneous miscarriage, with the majority (64.86 percent) occurring during the first trimester. With highly significant pvalues, Spearman bivariate correlation revealed a clear association of recurrent pregnancy loss with risk factors such as family history, smoking, obesity, history of hypertension, and history of diabetes. On the other hand, a significant association of maternal age with the incidence of recurrent pregnancy loss was discovered, but not with paternal age and parity. According to the multinomial logistic regression model, smokers were 19.012 times more likely to experience repeated pregnancy loss. Conclusion: A number of risk factors, such as maternal age, obesity, smoking, family history, BMI, hypertension, and diabetes, are strongly linked to recurrent pregnancy loss. To minimise the risk of repeated pregnancy loss, it is important to carefully evaluate each pregnancy while keeping these risk factors in mind.
