Technical Efficiency Analysis of Pineapple Production at Madhupur Upazila of Tangail District, ....
The primary goal of this research is to examine the technical efficiency of pineapple production in the Madhupur upazila of Bangladesh's Tangail district, as well as the factors that influence it. Using a multistage random sampling technique, cross-section data from 100 pineapple growers were collected during the 2016-17 cropping season. The Cobb-Douglas stochastic frontier output function approach was used to estimate farm-specific technical efficiency ratings. The estimated technical efficiencies of the sampled farmers range from 61.61 percent to 99.95 percent, with a mean technical efficiency of 91.14 percent, according to empirical findings. The findings indicate that, on average, farmers in the study region would be able to Via more effective use of inputs, they could theoretically increase their output by 8.86%. Input variables such as location, tillage cost, seedling cost, and human labour cost were statistically significant variables in increasing pineapple production quantity, according to the estimated stochastic production frontier model. Farmers' age had a significant positive impact on technical inefficiency, but years of schooling and extension communication had a significant negative effect on farmers' efficiency. a lack of productivity As a result, the study suggests that the government concentrate on ways to attract and encourage youths, as they are more competitive, better able to distribute money, and more eager to implement new technological technologies. Furthermore, policies and initiatives should be geared toward increasing farmers' formal and informal education by implementing successful training programmes delivered by well-trained extension staff.
