Thinking beyond Tuberculosis: A Case Report | Journal of Advances in Medicine and Medical Research

Aspergilloma is a term used to describe the saprophytic colonisation of devitalized lung tissue. It frequently occurs in lung cavities that have already been damaged by tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, or other diseases. It is present in around 15% to 25% of patients with tuberculosis-related cavitatory lesions. Aspergilloma is frequently misdiagnosed as tuberculosis in impoverished countries with high tuberculosis prevalence, such as India. Hemoptysis is frequently confused with tuberculosis, and the majority of patients are identified clinically. We present a case of a 56-year-old male patient with a tuberculosis history who was initially diagnosed and treated as a relapse of tuberculosis based on hemoptysis and chest radiograph findings, until further detailed investigations revealed an aspergilloma in a post-tubercular cavity as the cause of his symptoms.
