Traditional Herbal Medicines and their Fertility Potential: A Review | Journal of Complementary and

Rapid population growth is putting a strain on medical resources around the world. Traditional folk medicines are region-specific, based on local resources, indigenous herbs, villages, and, in many cases, communities. As a result, various medical systems emerged, including Ayurvedic, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Malaysian, Yunani, and, more recently, Homoeopathic. The purpose of this review is to investigate and assess the role of traditional herbal medicines in the treatment of fertility issues such as impotency and female gynaecological issues. The approach used was based on the findings of our own research, existing literature, and traditional knowledge from gunis vaidyas, among other things. Chlorophytum borivilianum Santapau & Fernandes (Liliaceae), Asparagus adscendens Roxb, and Mucuna pruriens L (DC) have been found to be used as a galactogogue and aphrodisiac in indigenous systems of medicine. Traditional drugs, it can be concluded, play an important role in increasing human fertility potential.
