Traditional/Indigenous Vegetables of the Kingdom of Eswatini: Biodiversity and Their Importance: A R
Traditional (indigenous) vegetables from the Kingdom of Eswatini contribute significantly to human nutrition. They include a lot of vitamins and minerals. They provide fibre, which is necessary for the human digestive system to function properly. Traditional vegetables are important commercially, but no studies of their contribution to the gross domestic product have been conducted in the Kingdom of Eswatini (GDP). A traditional vegetable business provides employment and consequently money, as well as food and nutritional security, and thus contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for human health, nutrition, food security, and biodiversity. Insect pests and illnesses are less prevalent in traditional veggies. In terms of resources required for growth and development, they outcompete weeds. Traditional veggies bring colour, texture, and variety to the meal. Despite their enormous relevance, traditional vegetables have been overlooked and dismissed as poor man's food, with no research funding allocated to them. The goal of this study was to determine their current status, prioritise consumer education, investigate their value as climate wise vegetables, and document their biodiversity impact.
