Women in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management (NRM) in Andhra Pradesh –A Status Report | ..
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of women in Andhra Pradesh agriculture, especially in natural resource management. At the micro and macro levels, the study looked at women's involvement in crop management, wage inequality, ownership, access to economic capital, economic decision-making, and natural resource management. According to the report, female labour accounts for 22 percent of the cost of cultivation and 56 percent of the labour cost, totaling Rs 3424 out of a total cost of cultivation of Rs. In the case of paddy production, the cost per hectare is 19725.
Women's participation was estimated to be worth Rs. 2558 of the total cost of sorghum cultivation (Rs. 13567/- per ha). There was a clear disparity in wage rates between men and women, indicating wage discrimination. The wage differential from year to year (y-t-y) was just 12.73 in 2000-01, but it rose to 35.13 in 2010-11. The lower wage rates for women are due to the fact that female labour is more plentiful than male labour. When the government distributes surplus property, policy measures such as identifying women as a key player in NRM at both the micro and macro levels are implemented. It must take into account the possibility of shifting land ownership to women. Encourage tribal women to lease fallow land for food crop cultivation by women SHGs, and train tribal women on how to use NFTP and other MFP without disrupting forest cover.
